National Emblem

This series investigates the kangaroo, the emblem of Australia and turns toward its darker underside. Celebrated on coats of arms and in tourism imagery, the kangaroo is also chased, culled, and mutilated, its body caught in the ongoing legacy of colonial land control.

It asks how these sanctioned violences continue to shape the landscape, how the removal of a keystone grazer alters regeneration, seed dispersal, and ecosystem balance. Beneath the polished national symbol lies a more troubling narrative, one that exposes the dissonance between pride and practice, and reveals the shadow cast by our most recognisable emblem.
